Despite the fact that Bobby works security for spring training and sells programs at William H. Hammond stadium during the Miracle games, he is orginally from New York and remains a Yankees fan. His wife, Lynn, is a die hard Twins fans.
Last night, at the hockey game, I was talking to Lynn when Bobby, who also ushers at the Everblades games, comes over and says "We got Doug Mientkiewicz."
I looked at him and said "You realize he's not going to give you any balls back."
"It's okay," Bobby says, "We have plenty of balls, he can keep all the balls he wants."
"He's going to stand on first," I tell him, "and when he catches a ball, he won't throw it. He's going to stand there and keep it. Even if he needs to toss it someplace to get an out, he's going to stand there and hang onto it."
Bobby sort of eyes me, specutively and decides he should go back to work. "By the end of the game he's going to have a whole pile of balls at first base," I tell Bobby's retreating back. Lynn is laughing.
"He's been doing that since they signed Doug," she says. "He knows I like him."
I snort. "Good ol' Dougie baseball."
